A Life Alive Title Short

WHAT IF I TOOK A CHANCE AND FOLLOWED MY PASSION?
WHAT IF I ACTUALLY PACKED UP AND LEFT?
It is a great uncertainty to leave comfort, steady pay, and normality to wander, but there is a great freedom that comes with a full tank of gas, an open road, and an open mind. We chose that freedom.

On December 7th, 2014, we packed up a 30 year old Landcruiser that was saved from the junkyard by Forrest's father, and left the lives we knew behind for a life on the road. We covered 15,000+ miles in 5 months. We slept in the front seats, the back seats, in tents, even on the roof. We ate when we were hungry. We slept when we tired. Along the way we met many unique individuals and asked the question, ``what makes you feel alive?``

We documented this adventure, and through A Life Alive the documentary, we aim to bring you with us on our journey.

FORREST MANKINS

Forrest Mankins is a 25 year old photographer from Oklahoma. It has always been a dream of his to travel; pack a bag, a map and a camera, and see where the road goes. Forrest is still out there on the road, still living in the LandCruiser. You can tell he’s happiest out there, taking photos and taking in new surroundings.

A LIFE ALIVE IS A CALL TO ACTION.

Everyone has a dream; you have a dream, and we think it’s worth pursuing.

It’s easy to postpone our dreams until “Someday,” but the reality is that we aren’t guaranteed any time in this life, and we deserve to pursue happiness. This is about overcoming and realizing the power that we all hold to take control of our lives. We can accomplish anything if we put our mind and our hands together.

We all take something from the places we see and the people we meet along the way.

These things shape who we are and in turn, the way we see the world.

BURT THE LANDCRUISER

Meet Burt, the 1984 Toyota LandCruiser that our journey took place in. Burt came into Forrest’s life at a young age, when a family friend gave it to his father, Butch. The man was frustrated that he couldn’t get the vehicle to run and told Butch he could have it if he came and got it. Slowly but surely, Butch rebuilt Burt from the ground up, eventually transforming it into a strong running machine. They painted it what Forrest describes as a “Slow Petty Blue”. Burt was there to see Forrest and his sisters learning to drive and for many family camping trips to Colorado.  When you’re living in a vehicle that only goes 55 miles per hour, often traveling thousands of miles a week, you develop a great fondness for it. Burt is as much a part of the story as us or any of the people we met.
